The Rado Star Prize Switzerland is an established design competition that is held in cooperation with Design Prize Switzerland. The prize is Rado's way of supporting young up-and-coming designers offering them a platform to showcase their work to experts in the field and to the public.
First held in 1991, the Design Preis Schweiz is now a leading institution of the Swiss design industry. The competition is aimed at Swiss designers, brands, companies and institutions working here or abroad, as well as foreign designers studying, working or working for Swiss companies in Switzerland.
On Friday, 1 November 2019, the award ceremony for the 15th edition of the prestigious Design Prize Switzerland took place at the Langenthal Markthalle. An innovation that has the potential for global use is “Genoma Grotesk”, a variable screen font created by Robin Eberwein (SUPSI) who was the overall winner in the “Rado Star Prize Switzerland for Young Talents” category. The font is designed for screen applications and, depending on the ambient lighting, its thickness increases or decreases in order to ensure maximum legibility at all times.
As the Master of Materials, Rado is known for its pioneering use of high-tech materials to create watches designed to look good for a lifetime. These materials – as well as design – are the essence of Rado. Rado focuses on the idea of design as something enduring, long-lasting and versatile. Permanence overcomes obsolescence as we look for designs that will prove their timeless appeal.
