Swiss watchmaker Rado, known for its impressive design heritage and itself a proud recipient of numerous prestigious global design awards, is delighted to announce a collaboration with Designers' Saturday, the largest and most important arena for new design and interior architecture in Norway. This design arena provides young designers an important opportunity to compete for the Designers' Saturday Award Best Talents, a highly esteemed design award.
For the 2021 editions the DS Best Talents Winner chosen by the judging panel and the Rado People’s Choice Award winner chosen by the public is “Liquid Gold” by Tzi Li Wong. She impressed the judges and the public with her forward-thinking design concept, perfectly in line with this year’s theme “Change”. The project questions people’s assumptions and preconceptions of breastfeeding and breast milk. The production and consumption has been presented in a speculative way to address the taboo related issue of it. It is not about solving the problem, but simply about exploring why we choose to accept some donations like blood and eggs, and reject others.
Rado is a dedicated supporter of up-and-coming young designers, offering a platform for the Designers' Saturday Award Best Talents finalists to showcase their work at the Rado stand in the new National Museum in Oslo. Rado invites people to vote for their favourite designer, giving each of the finalists a chance to win the Rado People’s Choice Award and one of the Swiss watch brand’s unique timepieces.
During Designers' Saturday, 10th – 12th September, Rado is displaying the best shortlisted designs of the Designers' Saturday Award Best Talents at the Rado stand in the new National Museum in Oslo. In addition to showcasing the best competition projects, the Rado stand encourages visitors to discover the Rado product highlights, the Captain Cook family and the Rado True Square Designer Collection, which was created in collaboration with leading global designers Tej Chauhan, Formafantasma, YOY, Thukral & Tagra and Yuan Youmin.
The Designers' Saturday Award Best Talents is an established and highly recognized competition that invites design students and designers to compete in a design competition, giving them a platform to present their work. The idea behind the establishment is to gather future-oriented projects, new developments in industry and important current debates under one roof. The programme takes place in collaboration with the 6 most important Norwegian design schools. Celebrate upcoming and established design talent alike. Vote for your favourite designer in the Rado People’s Choice Award!
