The intention of this project is to challenge the most common forms of communication that we humans use today, whether it is verbal, through body language, trough internet or other.
The bench is an alternative product to the stereotypical perception of Norwegians’ barrier to contact and interaction with strangers. Sitting on this bench, you will be able to replace the verbal communica¬tion with self-created sounds through the instruments that are integrated in the furniture. The commu¬nication and sounds that occur are an exciting and fun product of two people’s rhythmic / or irrhythmic sense, but can also be pure exploration of sound.
In a world where we communicate more and more over the internet and through cell phones, we want this project to shed light on communication through tactility, use of senses and through close encoun¬ters with natural materials.
With this project we also see how furniture can be helpful for new exciting interaction for people of all ages. The integrated instruments are acoustic guitar, with 11 strings, marimba and gong. We have chosen these instruments so that a diversity of cultures can express themselves.
