Pinched Ottoman

Ian

Barsanti

With a main focus of a creating three-dimensional structure from a single twodimensional plane, a large piece of leather is pinched and folded, held in place with simple yet elegant brass bolts. The resulting form is both structural, able to support a person’s weight without collapsing, and surprisingly organic. When viewed from the bottom it evokes the shape of a leaf or branching coral. The structure comes entirely from the tensile strength and material properties of the leather. Over time, the piece will scuff and fade, producing a patina which will only add to the piece’s personality.
