Design-driven Swiss watch brand Rado is delighted to announce the inaugural Rado Star Prize UK.  Working in partnership with designjunction, London’s leading design event, Rado is on a quest to find the next generation of British design talent. A shortlist of ten designers will be showcased at designjunction this September during London Design Festival.  As part of this citywide celebration of design, Rado will announce the winner of the first ever UK edition of the Rado Star Prize, which is held internationally to promote the work of young designers.

Announcing the 10 UK Finalists

The judging was presided over by a stellar panel including industrial designer Konstantin Grcic; design journalist Corinne Julius; Vice President of Product Management at Rado Hakim El Kadiri; design journalist Katrina Burroughs and designjunction Event Director Will Sorrell. The ten finalists will exhibit their shortlisted concepts during designjunction in September 2017. The Winner will be announced during the show and visitors will also be able to nominate their favourite project from among the Finalists. The winner of the public vote will also be awarded a Rado Ceramica.

Rado is on the lookout for the next generation of young designers, inviting them to respond to the theme ‘Design Meets Time’. The timeless quality of a product, its longevity, or how long a product takes to make: all of these aspects have an impact on the design process and choice of materials. Rado is searching for innovative, cutting-edge design pieces that relate to time in either a conceptual sense or material approach. Product concepts will be considered from the fields of interior, industrial and technology design.

Ten finalists and one winner of the Rado Star Prize 2017 will be selected by a panel of design industry professionals.  The winner will receive £5000 in prize money and a Rado watch. The winner and finalists will have the opportunity to display their concepts at designjunction in London during London Design Festival September 2017. An additional prix du public winner will be selected by visitors to designjunction and will receive a Rado watch.

The closing date for entries is 16th May 2017.

Each of the ten shortlisted designers from the Rado Star Prize UK 2017 competition will have the opportunity to display their prototypes as part of the Rado showcase at designjunction during London Design Festival 2017.
